On Wednesday, James Comey appeared on The View to talk about his new book. Yet, it did not take long before he found himself on the hot seat while literally seated next to co-host Joy Behar.
“Well, let me criticize you on the… Hillary Clinton investigation,” Behar began, before questioning Comey’s pre-election day announcement in light of the revelations made in his book.
“You said you re-opened the investigation into Hillary’s private email servers 11 days before the election because ‘I was operating in a world where Hillary Clinton was going to beat Donald Trump,’” Behar quizzed.
“Now should the FBI have taken it upon themselves, yourself, to guess who was going to win? I mean, that seems out of your purview…That doesn’t sound right to me.”
“Great question, but not for a moment,” Comey recalled responding when someone asked him at the time if his actions would help elect Trump. “Because down that path lies the death of the FBI as an independent force.”
“Well you opened it and you closed it, then you opened it and you closed it. Is it fair to say you suffer from premature interpretation?” Behar pressed, drawing laughter from the panel and the audience.
