MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski spoke gently to President Donald Trump‘s supporters Friday morning, imploring them to reevaluate their love for the man who has been attacking the late Senator John McCain (R-AZ) over the past couple of days.
“What it really makes me think, actually, is that he is losing his mind,” said Scarborough who, after watching a clip of the interview, began addressing Trump fans. “My dear friends who are Trump supporters, either the President’s losing his mind and can’t remember what he said earlier this week, or he’s a liar. I would not jump to either conclusion myself right now. I’m just your faithful and humble servant on the show. But there really is no choice. He is either a liar or he’s losing his mind. You pick the box.”
Brzezinski said she couldn’t understand why some of the Trump supporters she’d met, such as this one “smart, attractive woman” she’d met yesterday, could love a man who would do what Trump is doing to McCain.
Scarborough questioned Trump’s statement that he doesn’t remember attacking McCain five days ago, which he said could only be true if the president was lying or mentally ill, as well as Trump’s statement that he was never thanked for McCain’s funeral.
“No funeral at the cathedral, none, requires the approval of the President–you get this Donald– or any other government official,” he said, turning to his guest. “That said, John Meacham, even though Donald Trump had nothing to do with it being at the national cathedral, Cindy McCain still sent out Rick Davis to thank… Donald Trump.”
Scarborough was referring to a public press statement from McCain’s advisor Rick Davis back in August, thanking the White House for their help with the late senator’s funeral
