While appearing on MSNBC’s Morning Joe, co-host John Heilemann reminded Friedman that he had recently written a column which declared that Trump’s presidency is a “code red” threat to democracy.
“I feel more strongly than ever in everything that’s happened in the last six weeks that the biggest threat to our democracy is sitting in the Oval Office,” Friedman said.
“We have a president who is a disturbed person. This kind of tweeting, this kind of throwing overboard all these cabinet secretaries at once, this is not normal behavior.”
“If this man were running a Fortune 500 company,” he continued, “the board of directors would have thrown him out long ago. The board of directors in this case is the Republican Party. And I find it deeply disturbing, in the face of all of this aberrant behavior and truly destabilizing behavior, that you don’t hear a peep out of the Republican Party. And there’s nothing that unnerves me more.”
